i016 Danny Iny – Taking Risks & Avoiding Business Perfectionism

In this episode of Off the Charts, we are talking with Danny Iny, whom I have personally collaborated with over the years. I’ve noticed that the type of people Danny attracts – and the content he puts together for his online courses – are pretty top notch. He has truly built a Real Deal business.

Letting Go of Business Perfectionism

Danny shared that the biggest thing he had to let go of was a sort of negative business perfectionism.

There are a lot of stumbles and false starts out of the gate in the world of entrepreneurs. So it’s important to let go of perfectionism in the sense of worrying whether your new endeavor will work, or whether you’ll be judged negatively for it.

Letting go of perfectionism enabled Danny to move on, to take risks and try new things as an experiment.  Anything that didn’t work out was simply chalked up to experience.

Embracing the Right Amount of Effort

One of the things that Danny had to start doing to build a strong business was putting effort into properly resourcing projects.  In the context of letting go of an unhealthy attachment to “perfection,” there’s a big danger of doing too little – of doing a “half-assed” job.

After all, if you haven’t put the effort into a project and it fails, you won’t know if it failed because the strategy was wrong or because you didn’t give it your best. In short, you won’t know whether or not it is worthwhile.

This realization fueled Danny’s commitment to not take on a project unless he had the staff and abilities to produce high quality results.

Finding the Proper Balance

As entrepreneurs it can be hard to find that middle ground.

There is no Perfect Answer for everyone. Finding the balance in your business life takes time, reflection, and some good old-fashioned trial and error.

I just love what Danny shared about balancing the need between having everything be perfect, while  also making sure that whatever you’re working on is going to be top-notch quality .
