i012 Laura Roeder – Removing Business Bottlenecks & Having A Baby

i012 Laura Roeder Interview

I’m so excited to welcome my long time friend and early mentor to the Off The Charts business podcast today. Laura Roeder joins us to talk about what she’s learned, having built several businesses over the years… and scaled many of them to the million dollar mark and beyond.

Laura Roeder started out in business as a web developer, and realized that there was a cap on her earning potential. She could only work so many hours, and her business was not scalable.

In a gutsy move, she went “all in” and fired all her web design clients… From there, she built a social media training company that sold digital trainings for small business owners to master social media marketing.

She was able to grow that business in a much more sustainable way than her web design company, but she still realized that there were a lot of dependencies on her time. She was the social media trainer, after all.

That’s when inspiration struck and Laura decided to build a business that she couldn’t be the bottleneck of at all: a software business.

That’s when Edgar (the software company) was born, and shortly after Laura also started her family and gave birth to a baby boy. It’s no coincidence that this new business direction allowed her the space and time to start a family, without affecting the business’ growth potential.

Laura also focused heavily in building out a larger marketing team. That meant having someone else do more of the copywriting, which she was primarily responsible for in her previous business iterations.

To grow her business to the multiple seven figure level, she hired a writer to help write newsletters and blog posts. Her team also creates webinars, email marketing campaigns, and ongoing content marketing.

Plus Edgar has a dedicated employee who runs their advertising, including retargeting ads, and tracking all of the results of their ad spending.

It’s really impressive what Laura was able to create with the motivation that having a baby on the way creates. She definitely crafted her business with the lifestyle she wanted in mind, and you can tell she’s a smart business woman, too!
