Are you using push or pull marketing to grow your brand? Today’s episode explores the authenticity and value behind the “pull” marketing mentality.
There’s been something on my mind for a while that I want to share with you in this episode. And it has to do with the different ways of operating a business.
For example, there’s the scarcity vs abundance mindset. The scarcity mindset is totally focused on where the next dollar’s going to come from. It wonders whether there’s enough space for me in the business world…and slowly begins to creep into your day-to-day operations.
Then there’s the abundance mindset. This is when you know there’s enough to go around; you know you can bring in the revenue that you want. In this mindset, other people aren’t necessarily competitors; they’re co-collaborators. The abundance mindset is one that I’ve learned to embrace in my personal and professional life.
Which brings us to what’s known as “push vs pull marketing”.
When you’re in that scarcity mode, you might find yourself doing something that’s not really in alignment with who you are. Like cold-calls, and spammy, self-promotion in a group or in your email newsletter. You might intuitively know that it’s not right, and get that sick feeling when you’re doing it… but you think that’s what it takes to grow your business. That’s called “push” marketing.
We’re taught to use these very aggressive, more masculine tactics. They can work, and have for other people.
But if it makes you feel sick to your stomach, then a much better method to use is pull marketing.
Also called “inbound marketing,” pull marketing requires you to do awesome things, and simply let your awesomeness speak for yourself.
By running your business in a way that’s fully in alignment with who you are and how you want to be perceived in the world, you’ll be set apart in your industry. And it will let you build a business that’s sustainable.
For pull marketing to work, you have to have a clear proposition of what you’re going to offer. You also have to have something of substance beneath your business message. If you can’t deliver on what you’re offering, it’s not going to last very long!
In this episode, I go into more detail on how to apply pull marketing to grow your brand so you can build a better, more sustainable business.
